예전에 알고 지내던 미니아폴리스의 한 창녀가 찰리에게 보내온 크리스마스 카드 한 장.

아이를 가져서 마약도 끊고, 술도 끊고, 멋진 남자를 만나 잘 살고 있다는 내용이려니 했는데......

 

언제나 그렇듯 현실은 그렇게 달콤하고 만만한 게 아니라는 것을 노래하고 있다.

가수 데뷔 후 유럽으로 건너가 처절한 밑바닥 생활을 경험했던 탐 웨이츠가

고통이 담긴 위악적 목소리로, 멀리 떠나온 자기 자신에게 보내는 편지가 아니었을까.
